Dmitri SFC Feat. Elise - Don't Give Up

It's the first day of pride celebrations outside my outer Castro apt in San Francisco. There are roughly a million or so people wandering the streets half naked drunk and feeling very sexually rebellious to say the least.

I just un-boxed a new synth yesterday. I decided to step up my poly synth game for the road and spent on something nice. After the last few years of heavy circuit bending and fixing cheap broken pieces of gear just enough to record them. I now find my self armed with a high end pro travel kit that I would never have dreamed of having a couple of years ago.

Too many guys have tried to tell me that virtual synths sound just as good as the real thing.

This kit is my answer to that.

Elise is a real singer songwriter talent. We did this in one take. I made the beat in the morning, Made some revisions at lunch time and we recorded in the late afternoon. I guess she was practicing it in her head as I was making it. She said it was a new song that she wrote about me / how I view life.

The MPC 1000 sends midi clock to the 909 while it sends midi notes to the 8 voice analog poly synth on the right for chords and arpeggio. The MPC 1000 also sends midi notes to the little yellow analog mono synth for bass. Analog delay pedal and Microverb to wet the mix. Elise uses a looper to improvise live harmonies. The computer you see is used for recording only. The big red block on the screen is actually 14 separate audio tracks being recorded all at once for later mixdown and edits.

As for releasing this... We don't have a plan for it. Our only plan was to put it on youtube and to send it to a couple of labels in europe. I get American digital labels contacting me regularly asking for an "ep" or for a remix for back end percent of download pay. I don't like MP3s. I can't stand it when DJs play them and I don't participate in the MP3 industry at all. In my opinion an MP3 is a flyer not a record. My tracks are mastered to DAT or lacquer and I would rather just put them on youtube and not make a penny than to participate in all that silly none sense. The object is to make good music not top 20 download files. You never gonna stand out if always trying to fit in so. I will be mixing it down through the outboard rack and will be submitting the .WAV to a worthy vinyl provider.

This song will be Released as 12" vinyl on Italian Label EXPREZOO Records.

Thanks Dmitri!
